Structural changes and valence-mixing transition in EuBaCo2O5

High-intensity high-resolution synchrotron powder diffraction (SXPD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) are used to investigate the valence-mixing transition in EuBaCo 2 O 4.999(3) sample of composition homogenized by annealing with zirconium-metal oxygen getter a sealed ampoule. The crystal structures refined between 100 400 K. Fine scans SXPD as well DSC reveal two continuous transitions no hysteresis: At 233 K, disappearance long-range charge-ordered Co 2+ /Co 3+ superstructure from patterns, at 360 into paramagnetic state. smooth evolution lattice parameters results suggest spin-state change. • Synthesis 5 perovskite homogenous precise content. High-resolution X-ray its charge ordered structure. Thermal across orbital order. Crystal structure tetragonal
